Melinda

Melinda Vernon is an elite long distance runner and all round lovely person. She is also profoundly deaf and wears a cochlear implant, which she received when she was quite young.

Her portrait was framed around comments she had made to me about how she feels like she 'runs in the dark' as she cant hear her competitors or the crowd or her feet on the ground when she runs. Running is Melinda's calling, so we played with that concept, with the literal darkness. The last portrait references a snail like shape, like a cochlear.
